Our Story

Original Way was born in the summer of 2020, when an afternoon walk around our village sparked a conversation about greener living and the future of our planet.  A few months later our ideas and hopes for Original Way turned into a pop up shop at Wetherby Market!

Meet The Team

We met two years ago when our children joined the local primary school and became good friends, and now business partners!  We live in West Yorkshire and both share affection for the outdoors, and came together when we were discussing the impact that today’s consumerism is having on our planet; that and our mutual love of gin! ;)

Clare: Hi there, It's really lovely to be sharing a bit about me with you.  I am married to Paul and we have three children, Emily, Alfie and Harry. Originally from Kent, I moved to Yorkshire in 2003 and fell in love with the beautiful countryside up in the Dales and North York Moors. I adore being outdoors, in the countryside walking, being green fingered in the garden or playing with the children in the woods. I love animals big and small but particularly horses and dogs. Growing up I competed at Intermediate level Eventing but my nerves certainly wouldn't allow for that nowadays. I enjoy any downtime socialising with friends, finding a bargain at a reclamation yard and a spot of furniture up-cycling or foraging for home brew ingredients; this Christmas my family will be enjoying a tipple of rhubarb (homegrown by Nic) and ginger gin.

Nic:  Hello, I am married to Rob, we have two children, Maya and Fife, and a German Shepherd, named Ziggy!  I am originally from Shropshire, and came to Yorkshire two and a half years ago after five years of living out in Chicago.  I really don’t sit still for long, I like to be active, so walking (particularly the walks that end with a cosy pub), gardening, Pilates, reading, music, cooking, nutrition and eating are all my favourite jams!  I love charity shops, flea markets and vintage fairs and have a real obsession with coats!  I will get stuck into any project like DIY, house renovating, furniture restoration, whatever comes my way (got it from my Mama!)  Downtime is friends, family, obviously Netflix, a glass of Rioja and some Green & Blacks 85% chocolate!

Focusing on a positive future for our planet, we have looked to the past. Food was displayed loose on shelves with minimal packaging and household products were free from layers of plastic. Products weren’t stacked full of unnatural ingredients and things were made from sustainable resources, and we would like to get back to that "Original Way!"

We believe that if people make a gradual return to these simple and original ways, then it can only benefit our local community and overall planet health!

Anne Marie Bonneau, the Zero Waste Chef and advocate for the planet’s plastic pollution problem once quoted, "We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”  We hope you’ll enjoy this journey with us to a more sustainable life!
