Why choose Plastic Free?
Here at Original Way we are very aware of how daunting the idea of removing single use plastic from our daily lives can be. We are here to help you make small swaps which will bring positive changes to, not only the planet, but your heath and also your pocket.
If you are unsure whether these changes are for you please take a look at the reasons below and the impacts you could have by making just a few simple swaps...
Better for the environment
To make plastic you need to use oil derived products or non-biodegradable plastics. As plastic is non-biodegradable it eventually ends up in the environment one way or another. It breaks down into micro-plastics but will never actually disappear and this can change the air, water, and soil around us. In turn this affects crops and animals and even humans.
Better for your Body
Plastics can contain toxins that, after time or heat exposure, can leach out and enter your body. A popular toxin in plastics is BPA; a chemical that mimics the hormone estrogen, which impacts the way the body functions.
Did you know? Micro-plastics have been found in the placenta of an unborn baby (journal; Environment International Jan 2021).
Create less waste
Plastic lasts forever. Every plastic toothbrush you have ever used is still somewhere on the planet. Crazy huh?! Plastic doesn’t biodegrade, it just degrades meaning it breaks into smaller and smaller pieces but it never really disappears.
When buying plastic items like ziplock bags, toothbrushes, and water bottles, they are bought knowing that they will be thrown away. If you switch to the non-plastic versions of these then you could save money in the long run. Yes, a stainless steel or glass water bottle may cost you more money up front, but think of how many plastic bottles you would buy in a month or a year and then compare it to how long that reusable water bottle will last.
Higher Quality Products
Plastic is cheap to make and it’s not long lasting quality stuff because of this. Products that are made from wood, stainless steel, glass, or cloth are much higher quality, it’s why they lastmuch much longer, 'buy cheap, buy twice' is a family favourite saying and it certainly applies when talking about single use plastics.
